Here’s a common scenario that use to happen a lot at my house. It’s finally night time, the kids went to bed for the night and my wife and I get ready to start watching the next TV show episode we’ve been binge watching (it’s Nashville those days, go figure, I’m now a country fan!).
I shut down the lights, start Netflix and bam : my wife asks for the living room lights to stay on so that the TV viewing experience is not too agressive on the eyes. There goes the theater-like ambiance…
While researching other topics recently on avsforum, I stumbled upon a couple of review of bias lightning solution to improve the HDTV viewing experience. I was skeptical at first, but finally decided to ordered a set of Antec Bias Lightning leds for my new Sony 4K TV.
The installation is pretty simple, just use the adhesive paper behind it to install behind the TV and use any available USB port on the TV to power the strip. Ideally your TV will enable or disable power on the strip automatically when you start and shutdown the TV. It’s not the case with my Sony, so I need to use the small switch provided, which is a small annoyance.
The usage of lightning behind the TV really helps with keeping the lights shut while watching TV. Some mention improved contrats and colours, I wouldn’t go so far to be honest, but the experience of night watching is really improved by the lights.
The result on my side ? My wife now asks for the lights directly, no mode light debates 🙂
A small trick I wanted to share that really improved my viewing experience.
It’s hard to deny the fact that Dolby Atmos releases on Blu-ray are really ramping up in the last two months. After a busy October that features as much releases as the first four months of the format, we will have another busy month in November.
Warner just confirmed that the movie The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack when it’s released on Blu-ray on November 17th. One more to add to our potential list of movies with immersive audio !
Once it rains it pours right ? Another Atmos Blu-ray confirmed, now it’s Roger Waters The Wall, coming our way on December 1st from Universal Pictures. Keep them coming please !
Another release we knew was coming based on previous information from Europe, it’s now official : Minions will be offered with Dolby Atmos. The movie will be released December 8th on Blu-ray in both 3D and 2D editions featuring an Atmos sountrack.
As usual, I updated the list of Dolby Atmos Blu-rays on this site.
Lionsgate announced last week that the release of American Ultra on Blu-ray will feature a DTS:X soundtrack. The movie will be available from home theaters on November 24th and will become the second Blu-ray disc with DTS:X
Having said that, we must note that the latest news about DTS:X are saying that the format will not be released on AVRs before the beginning of next year or later. So it will not be possible to hear the movie at home in DTS:X for a while.
Note that as usual, I update the list of DTS:X movies on Blu-ray.
We were aware of this upcoming release for a while, but the official presse release just a week ago. We can now officially add Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation to the list of movies with Dolby Atmos. The movie will be available on December 15th.
